Official Dusk Tactics Introduction

Dusk Tactics

Hello and welcome to the new Dusk Tactics devlog. I will use this space to deliver updates about development on a consistent basis.

I will be migrating a few milestone posts from my older devlog that I kept, but most of the material going forward will be brand new.

First, a small introduction:

Dusk Tactics is a turn based tactical role playing game that is currently under development for the PC, Mac, and Linux. It runs on a custom engine built in Java and as of this update is being prepared for a playable alpha demo release.

The engine itself is pretty much complete and as of 06/2020 I will begin working on the actual game itself. The list below is far from inclusive, but lists many features that have already been added to the game as of 03/2020.

Features

  • Single Player Campaign - Featuring a solid 30+ hours of gameplay with sidequests, repeatable battles, and more.
  • Unit Management System - Manage a growing army of units obtained via many different methods and deploy them onto the battlefield.
  • World Map System - Your journey will take you across entire continents as you explore, learn, and meet a multitude of different cultures.
  • Large Cast of Characters - Along with an unlimited supply of generic units, you will get to know a solid core of unique units who play a major role in the story.
  • Tactical Turn Based Battles - Fight in medium to large scale conflicts with greatly varying terrain, enemy units, traps, and more on a classic 2D Isometric grid based map.
  • Extensive Job Tree - Learn and grow your units via a Job System that branches out and features dozens upon dozens of unique jobs.
  • Deep Unit Management - Equip weapons, shields, armor and accessories. Learn hundreds of different Abilities, and keep track of individual unit records such as # of kills, damage done, etc.
  • Customize Everything - Over time your units will learn many skills, spells, passives and more from the various Jobs that exist. At any point your unit may equip four (4) learned active abilities and four (4) learned passive abilities. It's up to you how to train your units!
  • Classic Tactics Gameplay - Gameplay is heavily inspired by the original Tactics Ogre for SNES and other 90s/00s SRPGs from the golden age.
